This week long workshop will provide an opportunity for high school AP Chemistry teachers to gain insight into the laboratory aspects of an AP Chemistry course. In addition, the instructors will provide a thorough description of the AP exam questions that  focus on experimental objectives of AP Chemistry   This program will provide  an opportunity to share with colleagues laboratory work  being  performed in AP Chemistry courses.  

The major goals of this workshop will be to provide information and materials to the participating teachers that will:

enhance your laboratory programming for your AP  Chemistry program

bullet

encourage teachers to use new laboratory activities in their class 

bullet

 expand the scope of your laboratory activities using computer interfaced equipment  

bullet

provide a forum for discussion and sharing of their materials and ideas

  Areas of focus will include:

Small Scale Volumetric Analysis Labs, Thermo chemistry Experiments and Methods of Using Technology in Laboratory Experiments

bullet

AP Questions based on Laboratory Activities will be reviewed

bullet

Labs performed will include, Beer’s Law, Gas Laws,  pKa, Kinetics, Kp, Ksp, Vapor Pressure and Acid/Base Solution Chemistry.

Lesson Outline

Both experienced and  novice AP Chemistry teachers  can benefit from this program.

A maximum of twenty five teachers will be enrolled in the workshop to provide each of the participants with abundant time and opportunities to interact with the staff.  

Target Audience : AP Chemistry Instructors, SAT II Level Honors Chemistry Instructors

Place:  Mahopac HS, Science Wing, 242 Baldwin Place Rd.,  Mahopac, NY

Date : July 5th- July 9th , 2004

Time:  8:30am-3:30pm

Credit: 30 in-service credit hours certified upon completion

Cost : $ 595.00   ( includes Refreshments , Literature, Handouts and Textbooks)

Three Marist  College Graduate Education Credit  or Undergraduate Chemistry Credit  Available for an Additional cost of $900 ( Based on completion of Additional Project Work)
